  My Matlock Family Tree  Katie Sue House Ward

This is the Matlock family history as we now know it. Information was learned by our first

family reunion ever in Martin Tn. in May of 1997. We had a large crowd and every body seemed

to have a good time. Several of us started on a Friday night and we didn't stop till Sunday.

The Matlock’s originally came from South Carolina and later showed up on the Census records

of Mississippi. Our group came from the Sidonia area just west of Sharon TN. in Weakly Co.

During our reunion we visited Tansil Cemetery, the old home place of I. W. and Rosa  Matlock,

Sidonia, Hop In, the church where the Matlock’s went, when they went to church, and Brocks

Cemetery in Greenfield Tn. We also learned that Big Cypress Tree State Park is also part of

our family history. The story of the park is that you could have drove a car inside of the

tree. According to the Matlock story, you could have turned a team of mules around inside of

the tree. When the Matlock boys would go "coon" hunting they would sleep inside of the tree

at night. The State Park is located just north of Greenfield Tn. about 5 miles west of 45 hwy.

Several years ago we had our 4th of July picnic there and we walked down to the river about 2

miles and stood across from where the big tree once stood not knowing that our family had also

done this before us. The only difference was the tree was no longer there....Katie Sue House

Simpson Medlock born  abt 1821 SC. Simpson married Malinda Frances Myrick. Simpson died after

1880, Melinda F died Sept. 1879/80 at the age of 52. Melinda was born in SC. Cause of death

was dropsy of chest. (1880 Mortality Schedule)
