Little is known of Hescott Matlock, He was born in Virginia, and it is

believed he first appeared in Albemarle Co VA in 1748. Hescott died 1775

1748 Albemarle County Virginia “ The Lee Marmon Manuscript compiled by

John Hunt of Granville says he was always a very poor man..had no property

unless a bed and a few hogs.. Informant believes he was insolvent when the

debt contracted.. he afterwards came to such poverty as to be put on the

parish in which condition he died just a little before the peace..

broke goal and ran away … he believes to South Carolina (Vol 9 pg 155 163

   by Ransom McBride)

There is not a lot known about Samuel, he was more than likely born in Virginia.

Samuel's daughter Nancy was born 1772 and applying a 25 year generation Samuel

would of been born abt 1747.According to the 1800 Census, Samuel was 45 and over,

giving us the clue that he was born at least by 1755. It is believed that Samuel

was the son of Hescott Matlock taken from the information below.

1783 Aug. Matlock Samuel L 13.6.4 ¾ Claim of Young Miller and Co Jeremiah Fraizer of

It was about the same time (1787), that a Samuel Medlock shows up in Edgefield County

South Carolina.

Samuel married Eleanor, maiden name unknown. Samuel died by August 6th 1829 Edgefield Co

SC. NOTE: If the date 1747 is correct for Samuels birth, he would of been 83.
