NICHOLAS MATLOCK
Nicholas Matlock was born possibly around 1736 in VA. Nicholas is believed to be the son of John Matlock of Louisa County VA, and on Nov 22 1757 received " For natural love and affection", 100 acres of land in Fredericks- ville Parish, on the branches of Hickory Bear Creek. (Louisa Co DB B-223-224) More than likely it was about the same time Nicholas married his wife Elizabeth Terill. Nicholas died before April 1825 Caswell County NC. Elizabeth died before July 1830 Caswell Co NC.

The first record found on Nicholas in Caswell County NC was dated Feb 8th 1780 when David Shelton sold to Nicholas for 146 pounds, 55 acres on the East side County Line Creek (Caswell Co NC Deed Book F pg 16-17) By Dec 17 1780 Nicholas bought another 45 acres for 50 pounds from William Sanders. (Caswell Co NC Deed Book A pg 627).

In 1784 Nicholas appeared on the Caswell County NC Tax List as having 208 acres tithed were 2 whites and 1 black. The 208 Acres on County Line Creek was valued at 369 Lbs.
Oct 18, 1784 Nicholas and his son William were witnesses to a deed between David Shelton and William Prowell. (Caswell Co NC Deed Book B pg 439) On the same day, Nicholas bought 163 acres for 50 pounds from William Sanders (Caswell Co NC Deed Book B pg 455).
Feb 18 1788 Nicholas sold 66 acres for 146 pounds to David Shelton (Caswell Co NC Deed Book F pg 32-3)
