MOORE MATLOCK

Welcome

Moore Matlock, for many years has been the discussion of several researchers. While no proof as to

who his father is, or exactly how many children Moore fathered, remains the same. The mystery of

these questions may be answered with the ever increasing popular tool for genealogists... Testing

through DNA.  At the present time the Matlock/Medlock etc. DNA Project has two known ancestor of Moore,

a descendant from Moore's son Jason Matlock Sr. and Moore Matlock Jr. has tested. DNA testing can

be seen at http://ba044ancestry.com/DNA/DNAproject.htm

Moore Matlock was born in the 1730's in VA. Moore married Jane Powell, daughter of Edward and

Elizabeth Powell. Moore died April 1812 in Roane Co TN. It is unknown if Jane ever left Virginia

and went to TN, nor is her death date known. Jane was last found in 1782 Halifax Co VA with their

son Zachariah.

 1 JOHN MATLOCK.................................................................................Next

Although there is no indication when John was born, and while Moore never mentioned

John in any deeds, the reasoning that he is a son of Moore comes from the fact that

John is sitting in Halifax Co VA along side Jane, Zachariah, and William. Dates for

the records are from 1782-1785 Tithable lists. There is the possibility that John

   was born abt 1760.

DNA testing on this line has been done with 2 different men. Kit # 42222 and # 61492

They are one marker off from the descendant of Jason Matlock.  Both men descend from

   Smith Matlock.

 2 LITTLEBERRY MATLOCK..........................................................................Next

Littleberry like John has nothing to indicate when he was born. The first time Littleberry

is mentioned is 1776 as a witness on a deed. If he was 21, that places him to have been

born around 1755. In 1777 Littleberry witnessed a deed between Moore and Zachariah Matlock.

NOTE: It is thought that the Littleberry who was of Franklin Co AL was the son of the

above Littleberry. It is also believed that the John Matlock who was living next door

to Littleberry in Franklin Co AL was Littleberry and Pheobes son. If this is correct,

the work on this family is wrong. 2 descendants from John have tested for DNA, they do

not match the others. Kit # 20595 and 121764

  3 ZACHARIAH MATLOCK............................................................................Next

NOTE: Zachariah was named as grandson of Edward Powell in Edward's will dated 1776.

It indicates that Zachariah at that time was not "of age". Zachariah was born between

1760-1770 according to the 1830 census it shows Zachariah to be 60-70 yrs old. In

1777 Moore deeds Zachariah 100 acres of land, indicating that Zachariah was probably

   born closer to 1760.

 4 LUKE MATLOCK................................................................................Next

In 1811 Moore sold a negro boy to Luke of Humphreys Co TN. Luke was born abt 1766 VA.

 5 JASON MATLOCK...............................................................................Next

NOTE: Jason was born July 16 1769 Halifax Co VA.  Jason was administrator of his fathers

will. DNA testing has been done by one descendant, kit # 26563

 6 MOORE MATLOCK JR............................................................................Next

Moore was born between 1771-1780 according to the 1830 census.

DNA testing has been done by one descendant, kit #141183

 7 ABSALOM MATLOCK ............................................................................Next

Absalom was born July 13 1777. In 1779 Moore deed 100 acres to Littleberry Matlock. With

Absaloms birth year 1777, it leads me to believe that the Littleberry Matlock on the

1779 deed was perhaps a brother? In 1812 Moore does sale a negro woman to Absalom Matlock

   of Warren Co KY.
