Thoughts and Sources:

6 Zachariah Matlock, according to the 1830 Washington Co TN Census it showed he was 60-70yrs

giving his birth date between 1760-1770. It is believed that Zachariah was the son of

Moore Matlock due to Moore's father-in-law, Edward Powell's will dated July 18 1776 stating

" I give unto my grandson Zachariah Medlock one feather bed & bolster when he is of age & if

he dies before he comes of age my desire is that it shall be sold & equally divided amongst

all my children” A year later 1777 Moore Matlock sold 100 acres for 1 shilling to Zachariah.

Assuming he's come of age, 21 years old, by 1777, this places his birth to be 1756.

 

5 Martin Matlock was named on a deed dated Sep 18 1838  (38 Acres, Heirs of Z Matlock to

James Miller. Indenture between Martin Matlock, George Rinehart and Jane his wife formerly

Jane Matlock, John Vaughn and Nancy his wife formerly Nancy Matlock, and William Vaughn and

Eady his wife formerly of the Washington Co, TN and James Miller of the same place. Sold for

the sum of $258. land on the water of Boons Creek. Sig: Martin (x his mark) Matlock, George

Rinehart, Jane (x her mark) Rinehart, John (L his mark) Vaughn, Nancy (x her mark) Vaughn,

Edy (x her mark) Vaughn. Each female given up their dower rights this 18 Sep 1838, registered

20 Sep 1838 (Washington Co TN Deed book 22, pg 250-251)listing him as an heir of Zachariah.

Martin is listed on the 1830 Washington Co TN, 1840-1850 Crawford Co MO and the 1860-1880

Phelps Co MO Census.

3 William Matlock born April 5 1847 Phelps Co MO. William died July 15 1932 Phelps Co MO(info

from William's death cert. Shows father as Zachariah Matlock, mother unknown.) William married

Caroline Smith. (Caroline's maiden name is from son William's death cert.) 1870-1930 Phelps

Co MO Census.

 

2 William Hiram Matlock born Nov 30 1879 MO. (info from WWI Draft Registration). 1880 Phelps

Co MO, 1900-1910 Franklin Co MO and the 1920 St Louis Co MO census. William died Nov 22 1949

St Louis Co MO (Death Cert).

 

1 Edgar L Matlock born Nov 21 1910 MO. Edgar died Dec 3 1969 Alameda CA (California Death

Records ancestry.com ) Mothers maiden name Stoff. 1920 St Louis Co MO Census.

 

Notes: The paper trail is there, but the DNA of other Moore Matlock ancestors do not match.

No other Matlock ancestors coming from Zachariah has tested at this time for a comparison.
